While our vision was bold — to bring together unique, locally made products from Kerala and introduce them to both local and international buyers — we encountered several unexpected roadblocks. One of the biggest issues was funding. As a self-driven initiative without external investors, we struggled to maintain operational costs and expand our reach through proper marketing.
Another major reason was our fast leap into the international market without fully stabilizing our foundation in the local scene. This rushed step brought unexpected legal and licensing issues, especially concerning exports and international regulations. As a result, various risks and compliance hurdles blocked our ability to scale or even continue as planned.
We also admit that there were mistakes in our marketing strategy — especially in building consistent traffic, leveraging social media, and gaining the trust required to grow an e-commerce brand.
But this is not the end of Koya Market’s spirit.
We believe in learning, adapting, and evolving. This shutdown is just a pause — a moment to regroup, understand what went wrong, and come back stronger, smarter, and more prepared. Our vision for a platform that empowers local sellers and connects Kerala to the world is still alive — and we promise, we will return more powerful than ever.
